Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is rock climbing safe?
A: Rock climbing is inherently dangerous. Please follow all safety guidelines.
Q: I’ve never done rock climbing before. How does it work?
A: There are basically two forms of climbing. One is Bouldering (See Below), and the other is belaying (See also below).
Q: What Is belay or belaying?
A: Belay is the French word to stop. The belayer is at the bottom controlling the ropes to secure the climber who is attached to the other side.
Q: What is bouldering?
A: Bouldering is free climbing without ropes but with a crash pad underneath for safety. Generally bouldering is not as high as top roping.
Q: What is top roping?
A: The rope is anchored at the top of the wall with two working ends one with the belayer and one with the climber.
Q: Do we get to use the ropes if we just come in?
A: No, unless you have taken a lesson teaching you how to belay. Or can pass our belay check ensuring that you are aware of the safety and proper use of equipment.
Q: So why can’t we use the ropes when we walk in?
A: Unless you know how to belay then we can’t safely let you use them; However by appointment you can schedule a staff member to Belay for you for one hour, this under our rates as a “staff Belay”. The reason for this is because our staff is on call and we don’t always have them on hand.
Q: Do you have automatic belayers or gri-gris?
